Treating dental issues can help to improve and preserve your oral health. At Bay Dental Group, our dentists can perform numerous oral surgery procedures for patients from Sault Ste. Marie.
What is Oral Surgery?
Injuries, defects and diseases of the hard and soft tissues of the face, teeth, mouth and jaws should be diagnosed as early as possible and may need surgical treatment.
While we always prefer to use the least invasive treatment possible for any given dental issue, in some cases less invasive treatment options are simply not sufficient to resolve the problem and oral surgery is needed.
Dental Implants
As part of the process to replace missing teeth and restore your smile, dentists can place a dental implant. This small titanium screw works similarly to a natural tooth root. Together with a tooth replacement such as a bridge or crown, a dental implant looks and feels much like a natural tooth. An implant can help improve the ability to chew.
Tooth Extractions
While we always opt to save a natural tooth if possible, in some cases this will prove undoable. If a tooth is too severely damaged as a result of injury, gum disease or decay, your dentist may need to remove it.
Gum Grafts
During a gum graft, tissue is transplanted from the roof of the mouth onto another area of the gums. This can help to repair receding gums, cover exposed tooth roots and reduce associated symptoms such as severe tooth sensitivity or loss.
Bone Grafts
If the bone tissue in your jaw bone needs to be strengthened to support a dental implant, your dentist may recommend a bone graft procedure. The implant can be placed once the bone graft has healed.
Sinus Lifts
A sinus lift is a type of bone graft in which your dentist grafts bone material to the upper back jaw to raise and increase the amount of bone in the sinus area. This procedure is done to prepare for a dental implant.
